PSYCHO CHIC

This musical is dressed to kill

When the experimental-minded Bushwick Starr won an Obie last year, the judges said, “Sometimes a space is just a space, but sometimes the people who make the space—the generous, theater-obsessed, willing-to-go-out-on-a-limb people—make it into something else.” Its first offering of the new year, a “pop-horror fashion spectacle” titled The House of Von Macramé, certainly fits the bill. With book by Joshua Conkel and music and lyrics by Matt Marks, the show concerns a small-town girl who lands a job in the city as the assistant to an eccentric fashion designer haunted by psychic visions of evil and murder in the industry. Inspired by such ’70s horror films as Suspiria and The Eyes of Laura Mars, the Management Theater Company promises a night of thrills, chills, and killer costumes. Nick Leavans directs.
Mondays-Sundays, 8 p.m. Starts: Jan. 23. Continues through Feb. 9, 2013
