Trust the Mayo Clinic: Walking is the perfect low impact exercise that can lead to many health benefits, including losing weight, improving cardiovascular health, and even lifting your mood. As they also point out, you don’t need to practice. Central Park’s Health and Race Walking Clinics, led by Coach Lon Wilson of the New York Walkers Club, takes you across the park at a brisk to moderate pace, enjoying the landscape as you build stamina. It’s fun, it’s free, and there’s no registration required. (If you miss this clinic, there’s one every Saturday morning through February 23.)
