New York Times media reporter David Carr once opined that adding a paywall to the newspaper’s website was not, in fact, like drilling holes in their boat, but rather, closer to “installing a new engine.” As journalism departs from its pulpy, inked medium and finds a pixilated home in cyberspace, the field’s future remains foggy.
