Nostalgists, brace yourselves. If, like us, you can’t always manage to confine your thoughts to 140 characters, you will be pleased to know that the art of long-form correspondence is not dead. In fact, it’s alive and well Down Under. Women of Letters, Australia’s best-selling literary salon, is all about the ladies (and gentlemen, too) who are preserving a less-immediate, but maybe more carefully-composed message. Scribes Marieke Hardy and Michaela
McGuire have collected letters of all shapes, sizes, and intentions, to be shared at readings and collected in their latest anthology. Tonight, the salon arrives in New York, with guests, including author Anna Funder (Stasiland), Talking Heads bassist Tina Weymouth, The Hairpin’s founder Edith Zimmerman, and Cindy Gallop, whose “Make Love Not Porn” became one of the more widely discussed TED talks, reading their missives addressed “To the Person I Misjudged.” Grab a pen pal and expedite yourself on over. Postage is
included.
