Since 2006 there have been at least 30,000 deaths in Mexico at the hands of drug
cartels. In 2010, a feisty 20-year-old woman named Marisol Valles García took the job of police chief in the violent border town of Práxedis G. Guerrero because no one else would do it after the previous police chief was beheaded. Hailed as “the bravest woman in Mexico” (though death threats ultimately forced her to seek asylum in the U.S.), García is the inspiration for Matthew Paul Olmos’s so go the ghosts of méxico, part one, which concerns the impact her courage made on not only the narcos, but also the entire country. Meiyin Wang directs the first part in a three-play cycle about the U.S./Mexico drug wars.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Sundays, 2:30 p.m. Starts: April 11. Continues through April 28, 2013
