BRAIN POWER

Imagine an even better New York

New Yorkers love to find things to complain about, but how often do we provide real solutions? For the next four days, the New Museum turns New York City into Ideas City, a biennial festival of conferences, workshops, and more than 100 independent projects and public events where ideas and creative fixes can be shared. It starts today with a keynote address by Joi Ito, director of the MIT Media Lab, on how the Internet continues to reshape and improve our lives. Thursday offers a daylong conference on “Untapped Capital;” Friday includes a program in which five designers pitch their best ideas for improving New York and you pick the winner; and Saturday is the street fair on the Bowery, where you can construct a solar-powered radio out of recycled materials, help preserve an endangered language, and paint with—yes—bacteria.
Wednesdays-Saturdays, 10 a.m. Starts: May 1. Continues through May 4, 2013
