Spiraling debt, closures, and proposed termination of Saturday service plague the postal service. (Really, things have gone downhill ever since they phased out the ponies.) But the Obie-winning Peculiar Works Project is putting one post office to excellent use—employing it as the setting for its latest site-specific project, Manna-Hata. Midtown’s Farley Post Office will serve as a backdrop for playwright and co-director Barry Rowell’s tale of how Manhattan came to be—a 400-year journey from the ancestral Lenape land to our skyscraper-bedecked present. The 21-member cast plays more than 100 characters, including Dorothy Parker, Jane Jacobs, and Walt Whitman, with Theater of the Ridiculous stalwart Everett Quinton as legendary bar owner Charles Pfaff.
Thursdays-Sundays, 7 p.m.; Mon., June 10, 7 p.m. Starts: June 7. Continues through June 23, 2013
