OWS Free University Rocks Madison Square Park, Draws Bigger Crowd Than Shake ShackMarcel Proust was born in Paris on July 10, 1871, during the Fourth French Revolution, amid rebellion in the streets and in the wake of a citywide evacuation. As no socialist or communist radicals have overtaken New York yet, it’s probably safe to go out and celebrate the great thinker’s birthday tonight when editor Harold Augenbraum releases The Collected Poems of Marcel Proust, a new edition featuring the work of 20 translators and Proust aficionados. Just as the author himself preferred to make translation a social affair (he often asked his mom for help with English), the release party will feature readings by contributors Meena Alexander, Wayne Koestenbaum, Marcella Durand, and others with a Q&A afterward. Indeed, the only revolution here is an artistic one.
