Okay, Illegal Downloads Probably Are Hurting the Music Industry
Sneak Peek at Brooklyn Pour Craft Beer Festival Line-Up; Tickets On Sale TomorrowOne of music’s greatest mystery men, soul singer D’Angelo has never played by the music industry’s rules. The two records he’s released, 1995’s Brown Sugar and 2000’s Voodoo, both went platinum, and his performance on the latter, which included the Prince-y hit “Untitled (How Does It Feel),” earned him two Grammys. But despite this, he didn’t tour between 2000 and 2012, and he has yet to release the follow-up to Voodoo that he announced in 2009. (He swears the record, tentatively titled James River, is completed.) So, no matter how you look at it, seeing D’Angelo at all is a rare treat. As with his recording career, he’s proven that anything can
happen live: At recent concerts, he’s thrown in covers of Prince and Funkadelic and even a few unreleased songs. Right now the chase is looking as good as the catch.
