An articulate and witty antifolk radical in the tradition of the Fugs, Holy Modal Rounders, and Crass (to whom he devoted an album of cover songs), Jeffrey Lewis has cast his radiant underground flashlight into dark corners of the human experience in such man-and-guitar epics as “Williamsburg Will Oldham Horror,” “I Saw a Hippie Girl on 8th Avenue,” “The Last Time I Did Acid I Went Insane” (and its sequel, “I Don’t Like Acid”). Lewis, who is also an
accomplished cartoonist, illustrated writer Jaimee Garbacik’s new Gender & Sexuality For Beginners in a realist style perfect for mainstreaming LGBTQIA conversations. Tonight, Garbacik, Lewis, and his band,
the Rain, debut their multimedia take on the tome in a program that may or may not include Lewis’s Leonard Cohen spin-off, “The Chelsea Hotel Oral Sex Song.”
