In the ’90s, when filmmaker Jem Cohen was making his Fugazi documentary, Instrument, he traveled with the band to a gig in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It was there that he decided to pay some artist friends on nearby Cape Breton a visit. Blown away by the natural beauty of the sleepy island, Cohen later returned with his camera to make We Have an Anchor, an ode to Cape Breton and Nova Scotia as well as a tribute to his medium of choice, 16mm film. Making its New York premiere at BAM in association with Wordless Music, the film is accompanied by a live score performed by—get ready—Guy Picciotto of Fugazi, Jim White of Dirty Three, T. Griffin of The Quavers, Efrim Manuel Menuck and Sophie Trudeau of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Jessica Moss of Three Silver Mt. Zion, and Mira Bilotte of White Magic.
