Want to see your artwork in a major museum? Hurry to the New Museum, where the exhibition “Pawel Althamer: The Neighbors” (ending April 13) invites visitors to pick up some chalk or a paintbrush and contribute to the Polish artist’s participatory sculptural workshop. But the workshop, which was a hit at the Berlin Biennial, is just one reason to attend this impressive career survey. Once you pass the street musicians Althamer has hired to play downstairs, look for the “Venetians,” life-size sculptures made by taking casts of people’s faces and attaching them to decayed corpse-like bodies for haunting results. Bonus: Bring a gently used men’s coat to donate to the Bowery Mission and get in free.
Mondays-Sundays, 11 a.m. Starts: Feb. 12. Continues through April 13, 2014
