LONG STORY SHORT

Franzen and Davis dish out sample-size work

He wooed Obama with Freedom and pissed off Oprah with The Corrections (when it comes to the Book Club, don’t mess). Nearly as much as his sprawling family sagas, Jonathan Franzen’s vocal opinions on new media, international politics, feminist theory, and just about everything else have earned him a reputation as a provocative live interview. But we think Lydia Davis, thrilling experimentalist that she is, can handle him. Tonight, she and Franzen present selections from their work as part of the Selected Shorts series, with special guest Edie Falco doing the honor of reading with Kaneza Schaal (of the Wooster Group and Elevator Repair Service). Lorin Stein, editor of The Paris Review, moderates the discussion.
