If you love daredevil acrobatics but cringe at the spangles and gender polarity of the average circus, LAVA, Brooklyn’s homegrown troupe of eight dancer-tumblers, largely female, might just be your ticket. The ensemble connects the human to the geologic, focusing on “rocks, terrain, women, and under-heard voices,” origin stories and visits to the past and future. Their new, evening-length Tracks includes text and video by Nancy Brooks Brody and LAVA founder and director Sarah East Johnson that explore the personal journals of woman travelers through history, and a cross-cultural musical score by DJ Tikka Masala.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: April 24. Continues through May 3, 2014
