Witnesses told police that the robbers were three three white males in their thirties or forties.

On Valentine's Day 2012, three robbers stole more than $200,000 from a check-cashing business in South Jamaica, Queens. They were in and out in three minutes. They left not a single trace of DNA.

And they wore masks so realistic that eye witnesses didn't realize they were wearing masks at all.

The daily press gobbled up the sensational crime. It looked like the clean, efficient work of professionals. And as the investigation advanced, the trail of evidence led to a crew of suspects who had evolved from bumbling criminals to well-oiled machine in less than two years.
