Ping-pong emporium Spin Galactic, owned in part by Susan Sarandon, aims to be an entertainment venue that gives back by hosting and sponsoring a wide range of charities. The club has a billiards hall vibe, and thanks in part to Sarandon’s star power, its NYC outlet has garnered plenty of attention from table tennis pros and neophytes alike. New SPiN/New POP features an exhibition of dozens of pieces by Steven Swancoat and Tripp Derrick Barnes, who work in a genre they’ve dubbed Pop Neoism. Their newest collection features brightly colored celebrity portraits and vivid riffs on artists like Warhol, Dalí, and Banksy. The night’s activities also include unlimited ping-pong, DJ sets, an open bar, and a theatrical performance by the Lady Circus of Brooklyn. Proceeds from ticket and art sales benefit Art Start, a nonprofit that brings creative workshops to marginalized New York City kids.
