The issue I have with it is the shaky camera work-AH! It's not cute in the way "The Office" or "Parks and Recreation" use for the mokumentary style of filming a show.
It's just terrible, blurry, shaky, in and out zooming, it's such a headache to watch this show due to how many people can't use a camera. HBO should be embarrassed they slapped their name onto such a poorly directed show. I feel like the script, the acting, the good idea for a drama is there-it's executing it into a a watchable show.
As a side note, I feel if this is happening to the whole world, the least interesting characters are a random white family from a small town in upstate New York. While this should be about how many individuals from different races, faiths, nationalities deal with a crisis of a disappearing 2% of the population, there was real chance to focus on a large city (New York, LA) or focus on different groups throughout the world. HBO has a massive budget to produce something like "Game of Thrones" it feels like "The Leftovers" got pennies on the dollar for such a small, boring at times group to focus on for such a potentially interesting show.
