Mars and Saturn are conjunct this August; astrologically, this means that both the planet of impulsive action and the planet of careful deliberation exert their energies on us, causing conflict and stress, but also the potential to be very productive. But astrology is all interpretation: What we know for sure is that, at this time, Mars and Saturn are in proximity (to the naked eye, at least), and for Astronomy Night, the Intrepid Museum opens Pier 86 to stargazers. Local astronomers are on board with their high-powered telescopes and extensive knowledge of the sky, ready to answer questions and discuss their (rather vast!) field inside and outside the museum. You are encouraged to BYOB(inoculars) or telescope. However stressed these planets might make you, ruddy-complexioned Mars and cloudy Saturn (whose rings give it a gold sheen) surrounding the moon are a sight for sore eyes. RSVP required
