Tools

You need a few things to fully enjoy villagevoice.com. Don't worry. They are all free.

Browsers

There are many out there that will work just peachy - and you must have found one or you wouldn't have made it this far - but we can only promise best results with the usual suspects:
Mozilla FireFox - Version 3.0 or higher
Microsoft Internet Explorer - Version 7.0 or higher
Google Chrome - Version 1.0 or higher
Safari - Version 3.0 or higher

Plug-ins

These are mini-programs that further extend the power of your browser. For now, we chiefly utilize:
Adobe Flash - Allows for all sorts of multimedia, including audio, animation, and interactivity. Flash has become the de facto multimedia format for the web, and is probably the only plug-in you'll need. It takes just a few minutes to download. Do yourself a favor and get it.
Apple QuickTime - Might be needed to play some older legacy video or audio, Quicktime used to be the de facto plugin for multimedia a few years ago. We still use it for our movie trailers because the video quality is really nice.

JavaScript

Scripting built into later browsers. Leave it turned on because we've been known to play with it. What? You don't know what it is, much less, how to turn it off? Good. Don't worry about it.

Audio

To play music in your web browser (Internet Explorer, FireFox, Chrome), you'll need some sort of plug-in. Almost everything online these days uses the Flash plug-in, so if you have that, you're good to go.
