The Sounds of Brazil (opened in 1982) is entrenched in the Afro-Latino diaspora which has been a blessing to the city's lovers of salsa, samba, reggae, Latin alternative, hip-hop, and more. The intimate space offers weekly parties with DJs and regular shows featuring some of the best bands, soloists, and turntablists from varying countries as well as locals and other Stateside musicians. The dance floor isn't of immense proportions for those who care, but the parties tend to be high-energy. Plus, you can nosh on tasty empanadas, Brazilian pastries, and more if the area in front of the stage gets too tight. Wash them down with one of many drinks (like a Caiprihina or Mojito); they're exceptional.
