Last Licks at the New York International Fringe Fest
As eating, sleeping, and the occasional ablution were sadly necessary, we could not cover all 200 FringeNYC shows. Perhaps you can. If not, some tuneful suggestions:
Martha & Me: Those not under house arrest may wish to attend Sunny Turner and Robert Rokicki's new musical. A woman obsessed with the disgraced diva prepares Thanksgiving dinner for her family.
Die, Die, Diana: Though the "Diana and Dodi" memorial bodega that once graced Third Avenue has undergone a name change, interest hasn't waned in Di, Dodi, or the car crash that killed them. Scott Sublett's seditious show alleges that the smashup was no accident.
Angry Young Teen-Age Girl Gang: "Clean teen" Didi gets down and dirty in this femme gem by David G. Smith and Mark W. Knowles. A hit in L.A., the show features a four-piece beatnik band doing "Ballerina With a Blade" and "Reform School Rock." Dig it.
Jonestown the Musical: Refreshments at the Fringe are few and far between (though Pith! does feature a pie social), but no matter how thirsty you may be, please don't drink the Kool-Aid at this melodious ode to Jim Jones and the mass Guyanan suicide he led.
