Among the extras on this two-disc edition of Billy Wilder's classic noir: the documentary Shadows of Suspense, two audio commentaries from film historians, an introduction by TCM's Robert Osborne, and the 1973 made-for-TV remake.
Screwed/Blind Beast vs. Killer Dwarf
Although counting the likes of Quentin Tarantino and John Woo among his fans, Japanese filmmaker Teruo Ishii, who died last year at 81, has remained relatively unknown by all but Asian-cinema cultists. Simply labeling him an exploitation director doesn't quite do justice to the blend of softcore, narrative hypnosis, and pulp fiction that makes up 1998's Screwed. Ichi the Killer's Tadanobu Asano plays a struggling cartoonist who embarks on a series of increasingly surreal sexual adventures. Also released: Ishii's final film, Blind Beast vs. Killer Dwarf (2004), lovingly described as "the culmination of his life's work."
