Best Hockey Bar (2008)

Don't bother asking the bartenders at MCHALES to turn the TV to the Knicks game. "Everyplace else watches basketball," says owner Jimmy McHale. "We're totally hockey here." McHale was a junior hockey teammate of Hockey Hall of Famer Joe Mullen, who, with his brother Brian, amazingly rose from the West Side's asphalt roller-hockey rinks to the NHL. Despite the always changing display of vintage hockey photos and modern hockey memorabilia, McHales also caters to theater-district stagehands, usherettes, and performers—the back room is filled with Broadway posters—who come in after work for the great burgers. But even among them, there's always lots of high-level hockey talk.
