best place to hit a high note (2008)

Now that the MTA is holding auditions for underground buskers, those with musical inclinations but no particular talent should head straight to the REACH: NEW YORK installation. Eight light-sensing "eyes" mounted on the two bars react to the movement of your hands to create tones that evoke everything from the flute and marimba to birds trilling and dogs barking. It's difficult to hit a wrong note—and singing in the shower has nothing on the power of these underground acoustics.
