LOS PARRANDEROS DE NEW YORK

If you happen to be shuttling through Brooklyn via the trains, you might be lucky enough to encounter LOS PARRANDEROS DE NEW YORK, decked out in small cowboy hats, fringe shirts, and leather boots, singing everything from traditional banda music (on guitars and accordion) to their own topical songs, which include a 9-11 tribute. Though their name translates to "the New York Drunks," their music is moving and sweetly sobering. Try the 1 or 6 train on afternoons or early evenings.
