Best Bread Pudding (2008)


The bread pudding is tip-top at MAROONS, a funky Chelsea spot named for the enslaved Africans that took to the hills and founded their own nation. The chef knows how to take the traditional dish—derived from the economy of cooking with leftovers—and transform it into something sumptuous, and the addition of rum is just the right mingling of Jamaica, West Indies and Jamaica, New York. Cudjoe would be proud.
