Best Ethiopian Vegetarian Plate (2008)


You've got to know where you're headed to find Awash. But once inside, you'll find you've just joined the long list of Ethiopian expatriates who turn up nightly to reminisce of home while eating doro wat, the nation's signature stewed chicken, fire-grilled beef strips here called Awash tibs, or the vegetable combo plates. I keep returning for Combo Plate Number 3, which usually features gomen, collard greens seasoned with sweated onions and a hint of cardamom, or a mix of slightly sweet string beans and carrots with a hint of oil.
