Best Fresh East Village Sushi (2008)
Some of the E.V.'s best sushi parlors have fallen like stricken gladiators. Researching this item I stopped into an old favorite on Avenue A, and was shocked to discover that much of the sushi in now pre-sliced, separated by dodgy pieces of paper towel. Among old-timers, HASAKI continues to produce excellent sushi the hard way, with careful selection of ingredients and slavish attention to freshness. And each morsel is sliced to order. On a recent visit, best were the Japanese red snapper and ocean eel.
