Best Place to Drink Aussie Beer (2008)
Eight Mile Creek, a fairly new establishment with a mix of Aussie soul and New York class, has an upstairs restaurant lit by tiny candles that offers dishes you'd find only in swanky Sydney restaurants, like emu carpaccio, spiced kangaroo, and oyster meat pie (the great Aussie football food). Downstairs, a spunky collection of mostly Australian bartenders serves from an extensive list of the country's wines. And on Anzac day in January, the bar pumped out Australian rock and country songsyes, "Waltzing Matilda" was said to have had its momentwhile burly expats and visiting gals and blokes gulped down pints of Foster's and South Australian semillon . . . and dreamed of home. Ah, home.
