Best Rive Gauche in Fort Greene (2008)
The menu's not really French, but there's something about the quirky decor and the comb- ination of Pratt students and neighborhood artists and writers that makes Chez Oskar like a Parisian hangout. Perhaps it's the live jazz or the French-speaking waitresses. It might also be the classic rendering of the frisée aux lardonsa salad of curly endive mined with chunks of chewy slab bacon, pieces of flaky potato, and the inspired addition of chicken gizzards, drizzled with a tart vinaigrette and topped with a poached egg. Whatever the reason, it's a delightful bit of Brooklyn bohemia.
