One day in March, the Metronome clock at Union Square began an ominous countdown to an unknown event 100 days away, leaving mystified New Yorkers wondering what would happen June 6. A garish banner courtesy of THE NYC2012 CAMPAIGN finally explained it: The big event was the announcement of the host city for the 2012 Olympics. Once London won the gig, the clock returned to normal—presumably only to be sold to the next bidder.
