Best way to feel like a (drunken) kid again (2008)

Drinky Shrinky Dinks

As a child, I always felt vaguely cheated by the concept of Shrinky Dinks. I would cut out the pictures of the Smurfs and Scooby Doo, color them in assiduously, place them on a cookie sheet, put them in the oven, and watch excitedly as they . . . got smaller? Where's the fun in that! I wanted them to swell, bubble, expand, balloon—not shrivel. But alcohol makes nearly everything more fun, so as a 21-and-over adult, I can finally salve those kiddie woes and reconcile myself to the miniaturization process with the Drinky Shrinky Dinks class at Atlantic Avenue's Artez'n boutique. The shop caters to artwork by locals, much of it rather awful (though the pint glasses printed with iconic Brooklyn images are a fave). But Artez'n does offer some pretty awesome classes in silk-screening, printmaking, papermaking, and jewelry design. At Drinky Shrinky Dinks, eager scholars receive beer, wine, and stencils and can wait and watch as their creations and their livers wither accordingly.
