Best Bar to Spirit Yourself Away to the Adirondacks (2009)

Black Mountain Wine House

With its wooden façade and pile of firewood out front, the Black Mountain Wine House looks like a charming mountain lodge plunked down in the middle of brownstone Brooklyn. Just pretend that the nearby Gowanus Canal is actually a pristine babbling brook, kick back in one of the Adirondack chairs on the outdoor patio, and you'll instantly get that relaxed I'm-on-vacation feeling. In the wintertime, it's just as nice inside—with a cozy, rustic décor and a crackling fire in the fireplace that makes you want to curl up beside it with a glass of wine ($6.50 to $13) from their excellent list and never leave. You'll also want to sample their menu of cheeses (try the Spanish goat cheese Cana de Cabra, $4), paninis, salads, and—the greatest comfort food of all—the Black Mountain Mac-'n'-Cheese with wild mushrooms and truffle oil ($10). The kitchen is open till midnight. Too bad they don't offer beds to pass out on.
