They say you can't judge a book by its cover. But they also say that clothes make the man. So what if you're reading a book and you're not wearing any clothes? Answer that, Mark Twain! Naked Girls Reading is luckily an aphorism-free event that juxtaposes the perception of beauty with the appreciation of great literature. Or it's just a party, where, um, naked girls read. Generally, burlesque beauties deliver the written word to a titillated crowd without even the comforts of their pasties; nights are organized around topics like sci-fi and tween lit. Founded in Chicago, the skin-baring literary franchise has tackled everything from War and Peace to R.L. Stine's Goosebumps series in nine cities, with five more to come. It landed in New York last winter, and the city made its mark on the phenomenon by hosting the first-ever Naked Guys Reading in June. The theme: Great Women Writers, naturally. A fleshy male rendition of The Bell Jar? Storytime was never this fun. $25
