Best Dance Night (2011)

Ghe20 G0th1k

Someone once described Ghe20 G0th1k to us as a fashion party. While art and fashion do play into Venus X and $haynes queer (but straight-friendly) club night, the wandering party has developed into a dance-driven study of the citys nightlife underground. The multiracial, bilingual, and politically charged hosts and actswho are also frequent participants in the citys DIY scenehave a lot to do with it; Venus, for example, has been known to cut clips of Al Jazeera speeches into her mixes and is currently working on a documentary about gay black subculture in L.A. The partys guests have included up-and-coming artists like Araabmuzik, NguzuNguzu, Lemonade, and Kingdom, and the sets generally consist of mind-blowing dance music from far corners of the world mixed with local experimental productions, hip-hop, and screwed pop songshard-style can segue into r&b, and unreleased bass bangers might lead into your favorite Latin house track. The fact that its a grab bag is the whole point. twitter.com/#!/GHE20G0TH1K
