The night we were in this picture-perfect tintype saloon, Bill's Gay Nineties was completely deserted save for the piano man—who sang and played like Charlie Rich (swoon)—and Ritchie the bartender, who took us upstairs to look at the incredible theater memorabilia. New York's oldest nostalgia bar—starting off as a speakeasy around 1930, soon after repeal, it began featuring old ragtimers and vaudevillians (hence the name)—it's kinda forlorn and kinda haunted. But the ghosts got class.
