Aside from their amazing penmanship, the people at East Side Ink can wail. And between shifts of carving on skin and crafting comic-book creatures, the staff of artists and piercers gathers around and calls in the spirit of Sinéad and other pop gods and goddesses to entertain customers cringing with pain, and to drown out the sound of the occasional squealers. Aside from entertainment and noise, the live and sometimes televised accompaniment (Jeff Buckley specials are a favorite) serves as inspiration.
