If you find yourself trapped among Upper West Side yuppie hangouts like Merchants, take advantage of the opportunity to have a pint of Guinness or a pitcher of something less authentic at Dublin House and sit in a wooden booth watching TV. The crowd is undeniably irritating most of the time, but much less offensive than at more expensive bars and clubs around. If you graduated from a posh New York private school any time recently, prepare yourself for an impromptu reunion with all the popular kids from those fabulous four years. Drinking does lessen the blow, after all. As does the jukebox, featuring Dire Straits, Bowie, Springsteen, Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson, the Cure, Leonard Cohen, the Pogues, the Chieftains, the Cars, Patsy Cline, Tom Waits, the Stones, and Elvises Presley and Costello.
