For the last couple of years, the Daniel pastry chef has run a joint of his own on the side. Payard Patisserie & Bistro features an informal room in front where you can perch as you wash unbelievably elaborate pastries down with a demitasse of espresso. Choices include the architecturally themed Notre Dame and Mont Saint Michel, each encompassing a catalog of diverse and dramatic elements. Two dining rooms in the rear offer bistro fare.
