Old Poland Restaurant
You can't beat the Polish joints for a bargain tuck-in so immense, you can take half of it home and eat it for breakfast. My current fave is Greenpoint's Old Poland Restaurant, where $3.50 gets you a full dinner of sautéed chicken livers, two big scoops of mashed potatoes, and a choice of two vegetables served on a separate plate (to maintain color consistency, pick the pickled beet salad and the purple cabbage slaw). A 50-cent upgrade gets you a pair of pork shanks, and for high rollers, there are dinners priced as high as $6.
