If you're hiding out, consider Sorrento Bakery. The front of the house is a venerable Italian bakery, and there's still an extensive selection of cookies and decorated cakes for sale. But in the rear, a steam table houses the metropolis's sole collection of dishes from the former Dutch colony of Surinam. In addition to the usual West Indian curry dishes, there's also Indonesian fried rice and sauto, a chicken soup featuring rice, noodles, and matchsticks of fried potato. To get to this Woodhaven outpost, you'll have to find a J or Z train.
