Most Righteous Roti New York 2000 - Roti Plus/Ali's Roti

Turn to the Trinidadians for the best roti, made from a flatbread with crushed yellow peas between its layers wrapped around a filling of potato and chickpeas plus "X" and eaten like a sandwich. "X" can be chicken or beef curry, conch or shrimp, or a selection of vegetables. I enthusiastically recommend the conch roti at Roti Plus (2345 Eighth Avenue, 749-8758), which hides behind a Harlem barber shop, while goat is my favorite at Ali's Roti Shop (1267 Fulton Street, Brooklyn, 718-783-0316), a Bed-Stuy institution whose marquee proclaims "Hurry Hurry Come For Curry."
