Best Picnic Spot New York 2001 - Fort Tryon

Central Park lives up to its name; Prospect Park is a fine one. Morningside Park is nice before dark, but I prefer FORT TRYON. Pack your hamper with citified goodies, scale the A to Washington Heights, and then unpack it on one of the benches near the heather garden (a riot of color in the spring and some of the best-scented square feet in the city) or on one of the verdant tree-dotted lawns giving over a view of the sparkling Hudson and the unspoiled Jersey palisades beyond.
