Best Polyrhythmic School Assemblies New York 2001 - NYU's Institute of African-American Affairs

Each year, free to the public and first-come, first-served, NYU'S INSTITUTE OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN AFFAIRS sends influential black artists back to school to give seminars; meet with students, faculty, and outside agitators; and do what they do best onstage, whether playing music, slamming poetry, or acting. Last year's highlight was an impromptu concert summit between Afropop giant and artist in residence Salif Keita, avant-clarinetist Don Byron, blues eccentric James Blood Ulmer, and Indian fusionist Badal Roy.
