Best Sunday Excursion New York 2001 - BWAC

BWAC, which stands for the Brooklyn Working Artist Coalition is the largest artist-run nonprofit in Brooklyn, located right on the water in stunning, deserted-feeling Red Hook, where there's a great view of Manhattan, including the Statue of Liberty. But just to see waves crash on rocks and imagine maritime days of old is a thrill in itself. Every spring, BWAC houses the Pier Show—where over 200 members show their work—at the historic, beautiful Beard Street Piers. Pretty well out of your way if you're not a Red Hook local, it's a great excuse to haul out your bicycle or indulge in that old-fashioned Sunday drive. Hours vary; call ahead.
