SHIRLEY BRAHA
Last November, YM magazine declared SHIRLEY BRAHA (a/k/a Shirley Beans) one of the 21 coolest girls in America, and for once in my life, I actually agree with YM magazine. At the ripe old age of 19, this Jersey girl is a well-known figure on the indie-pop scene, running her own record label, organizing concerts and parties, hosting radio shows, and appearing on an expert panel at last year's CMJ marathon. She's also gained notoriety for her online Indie Cred Quiz and hipster travel guide. This fall, Braha is off to college, but I doubt she'll let studying take precedence over rocking.
