TEA LOUNGE

If you're a novice chess player, intimidated by the competitive games in nearly every New York park, or if you just want to impress your date with your strategic pursuits, I'd advise bringing your chess partner of choice to the TEA LOUNGE in Park Slope. Or order a tea sparkler and invite one of the twentysomethings strewn about on mismatched couches to join you for a quick game. While other hip cafés have the occasional board game, this one's got an enormous and beautiful mahogany board, inlaid into its own table, and accompanied by oversized, elegantly carved chess pieces. And backgammon occupies its own table a few feet away.
