Holy Cow Records proprietor Steve Spain is the quintessential music-store bright guy, an encyclopedia of recorded arcana—he'll have the key connection Down Under for that one extant copy of The DreamTime Scream: Albert Ayler With Aborigines. But all heroes need seconds, and Steve has KENNY. Kenny hunches over in the corner behind the cash register like an R. Crumb character come to life, subsisting on simple carbohydrates and exuding the holy smog of his Marlboros. You sense there's tragedy of epic proportions in Kenny's history.
