I passed ALI BABA—brooding over the L.I.E. on the elevated access road—several times before I stopped, then was rewarded with great kebabs and Persian-leaning stews. Best of all, however, was the baba ganoush, made from flame-roasted eggplant and enough garlic to leave your mouth burning.
