The point of getting a haircut from a person instead of, say, a Flowbee is not solely to have good-looking hair afterwards—it's to make you feel like you're reinforcing the kind of person you want to be while you're actually getting your hair cut. If you aspire to be an NPR-listening, Reiki-receiving type, your cut awaits you in midtown; there are West Village clip-joints that are all about leather jackets and cynical banter. THE BEEHIVE has a solid sound system, spacious low-budget design, and disarmingly pleasant, friendly stylists—it feels less like a salon than some interesting person's salon-themed living room. Nice cuts, too.
